Nathan Spearing

I'm a special operations veteran with nearly 14 years of military service. After five kids and too many missed milestones, I left the military and founded Transform NC to be a more present leader in my family — and to pursue the craft I've loved since I was 13 years old.

Where It Started

My Construction Journey Started at 13

I've been remodeling for almost 27 years now. That might sound impossible until I tell you I started at age 13, helping my father add 1,700 square feet to our family home. As the oldest of seven children in a homeschooled family, I learned early that when something needed to be built, you rolled up your sleeves and figured it out.

My dad and I did everything — excavation, plumbing, electrical, framing. We supervised the concrete pour and took the structure all the way up to a decked roof. We hired out the shingles and drywall, but everything else we did ourselves over two and a half years, working Friday evenings and long Saturdays.

After that formative experience, I served 14 years in Army Special Operations. Even overseas on deployment, I found myself constantly building — improving lodging, constructing infrastructure, solving problems with lumber and tools. Those construction skills never left me.

We Live This

We've Remodeled 4 Historic Homes as a Family

Here's what makes Transform NC different: my wife Jacqueline and I have personally remodeled four historic homes while living in them with our children. We're currently building our dream home and farm in Southern Pines as a family.

My life for the last 13 years has been eat, sleep, remodel. We know how disruptive dust can be, especially with young children. We understand how remodeling upends the daily rhythms of your home. We know what it's like to have subcontractors coming and going while you're trying to live your life.

When I tell clients, "We remodel your home like our kids live there," I mean it literally.

A Legacy of Craftsmanship

1918 Home — Downtown Southern Pines

Our first house and the project that sparked our love of old homes. We worked late into the night while our firstborn slept — racing to finish before our second was born.

We renovated the back unit and lived there while we worked on completing the front unit. We grew to love old houses even more.

An 8,300 sq ft mansion with 11 bathrooms. This home took us many years to renovate, beginning immediately after Nathan left the military and started Transform NC.

Currently building our dream house and farm in Southern Pines as a family. I wanted my kids to put their hands on every trade required to build a house — so they could learn like I did, hands on.
